How To Get the Most Out of Invisalign

A black man with beautiful white teeth is inserting an Invisalign clear aligner.

When the functionality and health of your teeth are satisfactory, but you’re not totally happy with the appearance, we offer cosmetic treatments as a solution. Fortunately, Invisalign® clear aligner therapy is a popular and effective solution for those who struggle with teeth crowding or gaps.

Invisalign Clear Aligners

Traditionally the desire to fix teeth crowding, gaps, or overbites has been achieved through metal braces. But Invisalign can solve these issues more subtly than metal braces because the aligners are clear. Additionally, the removable aligners make it easier to keep your teeth clean during your orthodontic treatment. The aligners are comfortable to wear and gently push your teeth into alignment. Treatment times are generally about 6 months less than traditional braces as well.

Invisalign Tips

Invisalign is a very convenient method to achieve a straight smile, but there are some tips to follow to ensure your treatment is a success. Whether you are already in the process of straightening your teeth with clear aligners or are considering embarking on the journey, here are some things to keep in mind.

    1. Keep Your Aligners Clean

Your aligners need to be cared for differently than your teeth. Regular toothpaste is too abrasive for aligners. The most basic process of cleaning your aligners is rinsing them off with water. However, rinsing them with water does not remove the bacteria that can build up. Use a soft toothbrush with liquid soap to remove bacteria and food particles daily that may have built up. You can also drop your aligners in a cup of warm water with a denture tablet for 15 minutes.

    2. Keep Your Last Aligner Tray

Even though you will change out your clear aligners about every two weeks, hang on to your last pair of aligners. They can come in handy if you accidentally lose or break your current set. While Dr. Bethea works to replace the set you’d currently be on, you can use your last set of aligners to prevent backtracking in your treatment progress.

    3. Wear Your Aligners

This tip may seem like a no-brainer. However, sometimes patients lose, forget, or don’t wear their aligners for extended periods. Aligners should be worn the entire day, except for while they are removed for eating and oral hygiene. If you wear them for less than the recommended time, you will not see as much progress as you’d like.
